View from the Vault II is from 1991 and I can't say im particularly fond of 1991 but I also can't say I've given 1991 the time to even know the quality of performances from the band. That being said I have View from the Vault I, III, and IV as a result of an impulsive shopping spree of concert DVD's, so my question is: me being an earlier(66-78) era-prone listener, is this View from the Vault worth the $28 or so(on Amazon.com) to complete the set? Also, I don't necessarily have anything better to spend my money on.

You could spend some money here,

CRF & DDD are two I have checked out and feel comfortable dealing with.

First of all, it's $21 from dead.net for dl or the hard copy. Maybe the S&H makes it a push. I have the CD and I listen to parts once or twice a year. Most of set 1 is good, H>S>F is titanic. It's a solid B (for '91).
If you venture into '91 might I rec.,

I'm biased because I'm a Hornsby fan but my thought is if you own View from The vault 4, then you should own View 2. Much better performance than either of those 2 gigs they put on one disc. Not that there's anything horrific but the jams just aren't there because of the Dylan third set format.

I have to chime in here because I honestly love this show/this era. Listened to it for years so I was excited when the DVD came out. Like others have said, the visuals are horrible but not constant. HOWEVER, getting a chance to see the boys up close during this era is quite interesting and makes with dealing with the clip art graphics bearable. Two moments I enjoy are Vince sneaking drags on his cigs trying not to be noticed by Jerry and the jam in Dark Star when Bob gets really discordant. I had loved this section of the DS jam but upon watching the video it shows Mickey not Bob- and Mickey is making faces indicating he thinks Bob’s playing is shit! Cracks me up every time. Plus, this show has that crazy Lovelight reprise. e

I was at the show and own the VFTV DVD...
My advice would be not to buy it because after owning it for several years now I have only watched it a couple of times. The show was good for the time period and the Help > Slip > Franklin's and the Stella Blue are exceptional, but sometimes the weird visual effects take away from the music. I have never felt the band held up on video rather well - pretty boring.
Also, Jerry looks like Bozo with the wind in his hair.

And if you have no better thing to spend your money on - how about a donation to your local food bank, urban ministry, or ASPCA.

Just my 2 cents...

This may be a biased opinion but I remember loving the show and loved watching the dvd a couple years ago. Second set is worth the money IMHO. Also 1st combo of HSF and DS in the same set since the 89 breakout? I'm not sure but at the time I thought it was.

I love all of the commercially released GD DVDs. I own them all and would recommend the purchase unless you absolutely hate the era.
